JET Art: Artist Portfolio

We work with some very talented and world renowned Artists.

What Makes a Great Aviation Artist?

I wish I knew the answer to this? As a passionate collector myself for over 30 years, I have been privileged to own some wonderful pieces of fine art in this genre.

Robert Taylor was and to many still is, the master in all things military aviation and his sad passing at the beginning of 2024 has been felt by all in this field. Robert’s son Richard is also a remarkable artist, especially with a pencil. Anthony Saunders is another with an amazing talent to turn is hand to almost any genre in this field.

If like me, your passion is JET aviation then two artists really stand out. William S. Phillips for is amazing landscapes that convey some real majesty then there is  Michael Rondot.

For us Michael is the JET Master for technical detail and creating the mood.

Anthony Saunders

Aviation Artist
Anthony Saunders is one of the most talented Aviation and Marine artists in the industry and possesses a superb grasp of the speed and power required when portraying scenes of aerial combat.

He will spend many hours researching every composition to ensure that it is historically and technically correct in every detail, and the results of his skill are obvious to see.

His ability in bringing to life breathtaking skyscapes and machines of aerial combat with the rich colours of oil paint means it is hardly surprising that his repertoire includes many other subjects, including historical scenes of the Crimea & Waterloo; he is equally at home with landscapes and portraits.

Michael Rondot

Aviation Artist
Michael Rondot was born in Ontario, Canada but has lived in the UK since the mid-1950s. Growing up as a young man during the so-called Golden Age of British aviation, he developed a lifelong interest in military aircraft that led eventually to his 25-year career as a reconnaissance and ground-attack pilot in the Royal Air Force.

He is now one of the most popular and widely collected aviation artists, with paintings and prints in private, royal and corporate collections in many countries.

His work has often been described by enthusiasts in the world of aviation as the most technically accurate and visually stunning of recent times.

Robert Taylor

Aviation and Maritime Artist
The name Robert Taylor has been synonymous with aviation art for over a quarter of a century and he is widely regarded as the world’s premier painter of aviation subjects, and is certainly the most widely collected artist in the history of the genre.

Robert’s aviation paintings are instantly recognisable. He somehow manages to convey all the technical detail of aviation in a traditional and painterly style, reminiscent of the Old Masters. With uncanny ability, he is able to recreate scenes from the past with a carefully rehearsed realism that few other artists ever manage to achieve. His trade mark, flying machines that are battle-scarred, worse for wear, with dings down the fuselage, chips and dents along the leading edges of wings, oil stains trailing from engine cowlings, paintwork faded with dust and grime; his planes are real!

He has exhibited throughout the US and Canada, Australia, Japan and in Europe. His one-man exhibition at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC is hailed as the most popular art exhibition ever held there. His paintings hang in many of the world’s great aviation museums, adorn boardrooms, offices and homes, and his limited edition prints are avidly collected all around the world.

The aviation paintings of Robert Taylor, are now the benchmark by which all others in this field set their standards.

Richard Taylor

Aviation Artist
From an early age, young Richard Taylor had shown an exceptional ability to draw. A future somewhere in the world of art seemed undoubted, though exactly where didn’t become clear to Richard until he completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Graphic Design at Bath Spa University College. He excelled during his academic years, producing a remarkable body of creative illustrative work that was clearly leading him towards the world of fine art painting.

Under the watchful guidance of his father Robert, Richard’s skills were fast maturing to a standard where local galleries started exhibiting his paintings and drawings. Like any determined young artist, Richard took it all in his stride. But deep down, his heart always lay with his passion for aircraft, and things mechanical – as his father says “it must be in the genes”.

Richard Taylor is a young talent not to be ignored. His abounding enthusiasm and the distinctive natural flair of this young professional artist is clearly demonstrated in his aviation and military works.

In working with The Military Gallery – the same international publishing house that has represented his illustrious father over 30 years, Richard Taylor is carving out an exciting career for himself: a career that the most discerning collectors of the genre will no doubt wish to hold a stake in from the very outset.

Phillip E. West

Aviation Artist
Philip West is recognised as one of the world’s finest aviation artists. Collectors of his original oil paintings and limited edition prints span the globe, many waiting patiently for his next wonderful creation.

With nearly two hundred limited edition prints to his name, a waiting list of commissions for clients existing and new, military, corporate and private, and a head bursting with ideas for new images, life is always busy for this artist based in the tranquil and beautiful countryside of the South Wiltshire/Dorset borders. Self-taught, Philip took the plunge and became a full-time professional artist, since when he has developed a very loyal and expanding world-wide clientele for his original paintings and limited edition prints.

Philip is a member of the prestigious Guild of Aviation Artists, and his talent has been recognised by many top awards.

He is a master at painting piston-engine classic aircraft and is renowned for his interpretation of the iconic Supermarine Spitfire and Avro Lancaster. Meticulous research, attention to detail and skill with his brushes result in the authentic recreation of events and scenes, be they airborne, sea or land-based. His versatility also enables him to portray today’s most modern jets.

His love of aviation led him to take to the skies himself, by learning to fly and gaining a PPL, thus being able to appreciate our glorious landscape from an aviator’s viewpoint. The ever- changing scenes and skyscapes add to his portfolio of imagination and inspiration.

Philip’s knowledge of aircraft and the accuracy of his work combine to record moments in history so perfectly that both collectors and admirers of his paintings are able to feel a real sense of the drama and excitement displayed in his art.
