The Fourth Dimension – The Story Behind the Print

Michael Rondot’s The Fourth Dimension portrays the BAC TSR2 at high speed, its elegant lines accompanied by the characteristic black smoke trail from its Olympus engines.

The TSR2 was conceived as a tactical strike and reconnaissance aircraft and became one of Britain’s most discussed Cold War aviation projects. Its cancellation in 1965, following the initial flight-test programme, ensured that the aircraft’s potential would remain the subject of debate long after the programme ended.

Rondot’s painting concentrates on the aircraft itself: a striking design whose appearance still suggests the ambition behind the project. The original 24 × 36 inch oil painting on canvas is also listed as available for sale, subject to enquiry.

The edition is limited to 300 signed and numbered copies, together with 20 canvas prints. It is signed by Michael Rondot and TSR2 test pilot Don Knight. Remarque prints and artist’s proofs also carry signatures from Professor Bernard “Ollie” Heath OBE, Dr Ivan Yates CBE FREng and Mike Salisbury, all closely involved with the TSR2 programme.

A small 50th Anniversary matted edition was also prepared with the additional original signatures of TSR2 test pilots Roland Beamont and Jimmy Dell, subject to availability.
