The Handley Page Victor, instantly recognizable by its innovative crescent wing design, was the final and arguably most advanced of the UK’s Cold War V-Bomber force. Initially designed as a high-speed, high-altitude strategic bomber to deliver Britain’s nuclear deterrent, the Victor’s role was dramatically redefined in its later career.
Converted into the K.2 aerial refuelling tanker, the Victor became an indispensable asset, most famously serving as the crucial logistical backbone for the Avro Vulcan during the historic, long-range Operation Black Buck missions in the Falklands War of 1982. The Victor outlasted all other V-bombers, retiring in 1993 after decades of vital service in both the Cold War and the Gulf War.
