Swansong: A Limited Edition Print Farewell to the Jaguar Force
This atmospheric limited edition print by Michael Rondot captures the SEPECAT Jaguar in its natural element. The painting depicts a pair of Jaguars flying ultra-low over Loch of the Lowes in the Moffat Valley. Specifically, it portrays a “swansong sortie”—the final flight for a pilot bidding farewell to a legendary aircraft. This limited edition print serves as a poignant tribute to the Jaguar as it entered the twilight of its RAF service. You can explore more of our Jaguar collection today.
The Jaguar: A Rugged Anglo-French Warrior
Originally a joint venture between the UK and France, the Jaguar evolved from a jet trainer into a formidable strike aircraft. Indeed, its rugged landing gear and high-mounted wing allowed it to operate from improvised runways and grass strips. This limited edition print showcases the aircraft’s sleek profile, which became a common sight during the Cold War and the 1991 Gulf War. Consequently, the Jaguar earned a reputation for extreme reliability and precision bombing. Furthermore, the aircraft provided a vital tactical nuclear strike platform for the RAF for decades.
Fast jet pilots often used the Moffat Valley as a “mountain gate” to enter the tactical low-flying areas of the Scottish Borders. Notably, the twisting route along the A708 road from Selkirk provided the perfect terrain for pilots to hone their skills. Michael Rondot draws on his own experience as a Jaguar pilot to render this scene with total authenticity. This limited edition print captures the “sparkling” handling of the aircraft at high speeds and low altitudes. Moreover, the scenery of the Scottish Highlands provides a dramatic backdrop to the Jaguars’ final missions.
Authenticity and Distinguished Signatures
Every limited edition print in this series carries significant historical weight. Notably, the artist personally signs each copy to guarantee its quality. For collectors, the Artist’s Proofs and Remarques feature additional signatures from four distinguished Jaguar commanders. Finally, these signatories include Air Marshal Sir John Walker, known as the “Father of the Jaguar Force.” In fact, these signings took place at RAF Coltishall during the closing ceremonies of the station in 2006.
