Description

Breakout From Normandy – The Story Behind the Print

Anthony Saunders’ Breakout From Normandy depicts Supermarine Spitfire Mk IX fighters of No. 401 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force, preparing for an evening sortie from Advanced Landing Ground B-4 at Bény-sur-Mer, Normandy, in late June 1944.

Following the Allied landings on D-Day, forward airstrips in Normandy enabled Spitfire squadrons to operate closer to the fighting as the campaign to liberate France continued.

The print is offered in artist-signed Limited Edition, Artist’s Proof, Remarque and Double Remarque formats. The two remarque editions are individually prepared to order. Edition availability, final dimensions and image will be checked before publication.
