Designed by R. J. Mitchell, the Supermarine Spitfire became one of the best-known British fighters of the Second World War. Its elliptical wing, progressive development and use of Rolls-Royce Merlin and later Griffon engines allowed the aircraft to evolve through numerous marks and roles during its long service career.
The Spitfire played an important role in the Battle of Britain and subsequently served in multiple theatres as a fighter, interceptor and reconnaissance aircraft, with naval development leading to the Seafire. JET Art Gallery’s Spitfire collection includes limited edition aviation prints depicting aircraft, pilots and operations, with selected editions carrying veteran and aircrew signatures.
