De Havilland Mosquito

De Havilland Mosquito the Wooden Wonder

The De Havilland Mosquito was one of World War II’s most remarkable and versatile combat aircraft, famously nicknamed the “Wooden Wonder” due to its innovative, almost entirely balsa and plywood construction. This twin-engine, two-seater marvel, powered by two Rolls-Royce Merlin engines, was designed to be so fast reaching speeds over 400 mph that it could outrun enemy fighters, initially carrying no defensive armament.

Its exceptional speed, range, and adaptability allowed it to excel in nearly 40 variants across multiple roles, including high-speed photo-reconnaissance, night fighting, and, most famously, as the FB Mk. VI fighter-bomber used for daring, precision daylight attacks deep into enemy territory.
