Lightning Intercept – The Story Behind the Print

Lightning Intercept depicts English Electric Lightning F6s, accompanied by a Victor tanker, intercepting a Soviet Tu-95 Bear high above the North Sea. Set against a towering cloudscape, the scene captures one of the defining air-defence encounters of the Cold War.

The two Lightnings portrayed are XS904 and XR728. The artwork combines the unmistakable profile of the Lightning with the long-range Soviet Bear and the Victor tanker, bringing together three aircraft closely associated with Cold War operations.
