Description

Operation Telic – The Story Behind the Print

Operation Telic captures a pair of RAF Tornado GR4s on station over Baghdad during the 2003 Iraq campaign.

Central Baghdad lies beneath the aircraft, partly obscured by the dark smoke of oil fires. The scene places the Tornados within the operational environment faced by crews flying over the city.

The aircraft portrayed are ZA542 “Danger Mouse” and ZA560 “Brave Coq”. Both carried colourful nose art, whisky references and mission markings during the conflict, details that give Rondot’s painting a strong connection with the individual aircraft.

The Remarque editions carry ten named signatures from commanders and aircrew associated with the period, all retained in full above so the signature content of that variant is clear.
