Michael Rondot’s Marine Muscle is a tribute to the AV-8B Harrier II and Marine Attack Squadron 211 (VMA-211), the “Wake Island Avengers”.
Developed in the United States from the earlier AV-8A, the Harrier II introduced a larger wing, more fuel, an elevated cockpit, improved avionics and revised flying characteristics.
In 1991, AV-8B Harriers were the first U.S. Marine Corps tactical aircraft to arrive in theatre for Operation Desert Storm. The original product record notes that 86 Harrier IIs flew 3,380 combat sorties during the 42 days of combat.
