Michael Rondot’s Boeing 747 Classic captures a British Airways Jumbo at the moment of departure from Gatwick, lifting away with a full load of passengers and fuel.
The 747’s four-engine configuration, distinctive upper deck and sheer scale made it one of the most recognisable commercial aircraft of its era.
The original product record notes that the raised cockpit was designed in part so that the aircraft could be adapted for freight use with a front cargo door, at a time when supersonic transports were expected to play a much larger role in future passenger travel.
