Description

Target Berlin – The Story Behind the Print

Target Berlin is Michael Rondot’s sombre portrayal of outbound Avro Lancasters at sunset over the North Norfolk coast, with a Pathfinder Force Mosquito overtaking the bomber stream.

The Lancaster shown is VN-B of No. 50 Squadron, RAF Skellingthorpe, flown by Michael Beetham and his crew during the height of the bomber offensive in 1943–44, including ten missions to Berlin.

The Mosquito represents the Pathfinder Force operating ahead of the main bomber stream, bringing the two elements of the mission together within one scene.

The original edition of 50 signed and numbered prints is sold out. Artist’s proofs, remarque copies and canvas prints remain subject to availability. The edition carries the signatures of Michael Rondot, Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir Michael Beetham GCB CBE DFC AFC and Flight Lieutenant Mervyn Ingmire DFC of 115 and 83 (PFF) Squadron.
