For 33 years, from 1969 to 2002, the Wessex was closely associated with RAF operations in Northern Ireland, carrying troops and supplies and supporting major security operations.
To commemorate the retirement of the aircraft, the RAF Museum commissioned Michael Rondot to paint a pair of gun-armed Wessex helicopters over the scene of an incident in the border area of South Armagh.
The painting reflects the Wessex’s reputation as a tough and dependable workhorse and records an operational environment in which the aircraft served for more than three decades.
The print is signed by Michael Rondot and Air Chief Marshal Sir John Day KCB OBE ADC.
