Desert Cats – The Story Behind the Print

Michael Rondot’s Desert Cats captures a pair of RAF Jaguars breaking formation and descending towards the Arabian desert during the Gulf War period. The aircraft carry 1,000 lb bombs and BL755 cluster bombs, reflecting the demanding low-level training undertaken by the Jaguar force.

Collectair, Michael Rondot’s official website, records Jaguar crews training at around 480 knots and 20–30 feet above the desert as they prepared to operate beneath radar coverage and reduce exposure to local air defences.

The edition has an exceptional connection with the people who operated the aircraft. Every print is individually signed by 25 pilots from the RAF Coltishall Jaguar squadrons who flew on Operations GRANBY, DESERT STORM and WARDEN, including all three squadron commanders.

The edition comprises 500 signed and numbered prints, with 50 Artist’s Proofs and Remarques and 20 canvas prints. Remarque versions carry an original detailed Jaguar drawing and squadron badge in the print border, with Double Remarque versions carrying two drawings.
