In The Air Tonight, the fifth print in Michael Rondot’s Gulf War series, captures a Tornado accelerating along the runway with afterburners blazing at the start of a night low-level airfield attack mission.
The aircraft carries JP233 airfield-denial weapons, while the bad weather and dark overcast sky reflect the conditions of the opening days of the campaign.
Rondot was flying Jaguars from Bahrain alongside the Tornado force and witnessed departures like this during the conflict. The painting is intended as a tribute to the crews who continued flying these demanding missions despite aircraft losses and casualties.
The edition is artist signed and also carries the signatures of 19 Tornado aircrew who flew night low-level attack missions during the first Gulf War.
