The Typhoons have intercepted and escorted Russian Tu-95 Bear aircraft towards the boundary of the UK and Norway Air Policing Areas. In the painting, a Royal Norwegian Air Force F-16 takes over the escort as the Bears continue above towering clouds towards the Kola Peninsula.
No. 6 Squadron reformed in 2010 following a short period of disbandment after the retirement of the Jaguar, becoming the RAF’s third frontline Eurofighter Typhoon squadron. The artwork connects the squadron’s modern air-defence role with a unit whose history had already been closely associated with another famous RAF fast jet.
Signed by Michael Rondot, the print captures a contemporary NATO air-policing mission and the handover between RAF and Norwegian fighters.
